Biography

Annabelle Ward was born in Illinois 28 Oct 1921. She was the daughter of Forrest Tony Ward and Goldie M. (Anderson) Ward. In 1920 Forrest and Goldie were living in Equality, Gallatin County, Illinois.^[1] Their son Luther Ward is 1 year old. Luther was probably born in Equality, Gallatin County, Illinois. In 1930 Annabelle is 8 years old and living with her parents and siblings in Eldorado, Saline County, Illinois. Her older brother, Luther, is 11 years old.^[2] Annabelle's siblings Luther Ward, was born about 1919; Mabel Ruth Ward, was born about 1924 in Illinois; Mary Edith, Ward, was born about 1926 in Illinois and Wanda Ward, was born about 1928 in Illinois. Anabelle's father, Forrest Ward, is working in the coal mine. In 1940 there are more children in the Ward home.^[3] Sam Ward was born about 1930 in Illinois; Jack Ward was born about 1932 in Illinois and Phillis J Ward was born about 1938 in Illinois. According to the U.S., Social Security Applications and Claims Index, 1936-2007 on Ancestry Annabelle changed her name to Annabelle Maurer in Feb 1951. Her name was changed again to Annabelle W. Baker 1 Apr 1994 four months after she was deceased. It is unknown whether Annabelle and an unknown Maurer were ever actually married. According to Barbara Baker, Mr. Maurer was in a T.B. Hospital. He eventually recovered from the deadly disease and was discharged. Annabelle had one child with him; Patsy Maurer. According to the Social Security Administration record, she did take his name. It is also unknown whether Annabelle and Ralph Baker were actually married. There is no marriage record in Illinois or California. Again, according to the Social Security Administration record, she did take his name. Ralph Baker and Annabelle Ward did have one child together; Juliana Baker. She was born 21 Jan 1953 in San Diego County, California. Ralph and Annabelle eventually separated and she took over his business; Baker's Hardware in Imperial Beach, San Diego County, California. Annabelle eventually sold the property. Ralph J. Baker passed away 6 Oct 1991 in Imperial Beach.^[4] Anabelle Ward Baker passed away 11 Jan 1994 in Chula Vista, San Diego County, California.^[5]

Research Notes

• Annabelle is listed as Annabelle W. Baker in the Social Security Death Index and again in the U.S. Public Records Index. I assume that this stands for Ward and is not an initial for her middle name. She did not use a middle name that I have found. It is possible that her given name was Anna and her middle name was Belle, later run together as Annabelle by her family.
