William Ward was born in 1837 at Wallasea Island in Canewdon, Essex, England to John Ward and Rebecca (Grimes) Ward.
William Ward, son of John, a labourer, & Rebecca, residing at Wallasea Island, was christened on 7 May 1837 at St Nicholas' in Canewdon.[1]
In 1841 William Ward (age 4) lived in Canewdon with his father John (40), mother "Mary" (30), and three siblings: Sarah (9), John (6), and Amelia (1).[2]
He grew up to marry Mary Ann Ward in 1858, and they had four children together over the next 15 years. He died in January 1903.
