Biography

Clifford John Ward was born January 8, 1902, in Keokuk, the son of Ross C. and Anna Blixt Ward, and spent all of his life here. He had been employed at the National Carbide Corporation since March 7, 1921, and was plant service manager. On December 27, 1920, he married Susanna Maple in Keokuk. Active in church, fraternal and community affairs, he was a member of trustee of the First Baptist church, a former deacon, a past president of the Junior Chamber f Commerce, past master of Eagle lodge No. 12, A.F.&A.M. past president of the High Twelve club, a member of Malta Shrine, White Shrine of Jerusalem, and president of Lee county fair board for several years. Formerly he took an active part in Boy Scout leadership, serving the district and council in various capacities as well as being scoutmaster. Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Ermal swan of Long Beach, Calif., and MRs. Joyce Geltz of Keokuk; his father, Ross C. Ward of Kansas City; six grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. W. T. Moore of Freeport, Ill. The body is at DeJong's Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements await word from the daughter in Long Beach. _____________ Clifford was killed in a car accident on the way home from a Lee County Fair committee meeting. Him and other committee members were riding in the same car and were hit by a train killing all three members.
