Biography

Alfred was born in 1833. He was the son of John Ward and Mary Neasham.

UK Census Date 1851: Recorded in the household of his married sister Elizabeth Emmerson and her husband Thomas in Cornwallis Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England. Aged 18. Also in the household was his mother Mary and sister Mary.

Occupation: Merchants Clerk

His sister Elizabeth died in 1852.

In February 1854 his brother John was drowned off the coast of Natal, South Africa.

He may have married Isabella Howie (daughter of Hugh Howie) on 19 September 1854 at Liverpool, Lancaster, England.^[2]

If so they had two children:

Hugh Howie (b. 1856)

Mary Isabella Elfrida (b. 23 May 1858)

Sadly Alfred passed away in January 1858 at the age of 25, before the birth of his second child. ^[3]
