OBITUARY WAPPINGERS FALLS - C. Fred Ward, 79, a lifelong area resident, died April 21, 2000 at Fishkill Health Center. Mr. Ward was a systems analyst at IBM East Fishkill for 35 years, retiring March 31, 1990. He was a member of St. Denis Church, where he was an usher and greeter. Mr. Ward coached IBM Youth Hockey for 15 years before his retirement. He was inducted into the Dutchess County Sportmens Hall of Fame in Oct 1998, and was commissioner of the high school club hockey league. Fred was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels and RSVP. He enjoyed visiting and collecting lighthouses and was an avid New York Ranger hockey fan. Born in Buena Vista, OH, on April 5, 1931, he was the son of Fred R. and Mary Lockhart Ward. He was a graduate of Pawling High School, Trinity Pawling School, and Hobart College. He married Faith Venus on Oct. 12, 1958 at St. Johns Church, Pawling. Mrs. Ward survives at home. Besides his wife, survivors include his children, Mary Ellen Whiteley, LaGrange; Christopher C. Ward, Wappingers Falls; and Susan E. Ward, Saratoga County; two grandchildren, Sarah and Emily Whiteley; and a sister, Electra Ward Nicks, Pawling. He was predeceased by a son, Richard F. Ward, on July 19, 1981; a brother, R. Leslie Ward; and two sisters, Lois Sutton and Dorothy Cronk. A Mass will be offered 10 a.m., 4/24, at St. Denis Church, Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Interment will be in St. Denis Cemetery, Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Poughkeepsie Journal
