Thomas was born[1] and baptised in 1858 in Eastrington, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of Kelita Ward and Margaret Simpson.[2] The family lived in Eastrington.[3][4][5]
Thomas married Sarah Popplewell in Eastrington in 1881.[6][7] In 1891[8] and 1901 the family lived in Sherburn, Yorkshire, where Thomas was a domestic coachman.[9]
