John Wardell was born in Leicestershire, England.

John Wardell was born in about 1787 and baptised on 24 June 1787 at All Saints, Loughborough, Leicestershire, England. He was the son of Richard Wardle and Mary Pearson. ^[1][2]

John Wardall was married to Elizabeth Taylor on 11 Mar 1811 at All Saints, Loughborough. Witnesses were Joseph Webster and John Pain. Banns had been read for them in 1806 and again in 1811. ^[3][4][5][6]

Research

There are also several John Wardles married to Elizabeths in Leicestershire, and care must be taken not to confuse them. I have found the following sources in relation to a John Wardle:

In 1830, a John Wardle was recorded in the Poll Book as being a joiner of Loughborough. ^[7]

In 1832, John Wardle of Loughborough was recorded as having a property in Woodgate, Loughborough of his own occupation. Other Wardles listed were Peter owning property in South Street, with Bennett Cramp as tenant, and Thomas Wardle owning property in Pinfold Gate. ^[8]

In 1841, a John Wardle (53, ag. lab.) and Elizabeth Wardle (50), John Wardle (18), Mary Wardle (20), Jane Wardle (16), Joseph Wardle (12) and Fanny Wardle (9) were living in the Township of Swannington, Leicestershire, England, United Kingdom. ^[9]

It becomes clear this 1841 John Wardle was not born in Loughborough, when we see him on the 1851 Census, which has him as a widower, 65, ag. lab., born in 'Tongue' (Tonge), Leicestershire, with two children, Joseph (20, coal miner, born in Thringstone, Leicestershire) and Fanney (18, lace worker in cotton, born in Thringstone, Leicestershire). ^[10][11]

In 1861, that John Wardle (76, head, widower, Ag Lab, born in Breedon) was living in Frogits Lane, Thringstone, Leicestershire, England, United Kingdom. Note that Tonge is a hamlet of Breedon. ^[12]

Possible death of John Wardle, age 84 in 1866 Q2 in Loughborough District. ^[13]

And a John Wardell who died on 30 Nov 1866, probate date 4 Jan 1867. 1st Beneficiary's Name: John Wardell 2nd Beneficiary's Name: James Wardell Additional person's name: Robert Knaggs Walis. ^[14]

Robert Knaggs Wallis had a son, William Wardell Wallis, MMN Wardell, in 1852 J Quarter in BEVERLEY. ^[15]
