Biography

Elizabeth Ware (c1638 co. Kent, England-) m. c1663 John Garrett (c1638-) son of John Garrett of Isle of Wight, VA. In 1657, Lt. Col. Robert Abrall was granted 950 acres in New Kent Co., for trans. 19 persons, one of which was Eliza. Ware. In 1664, John Pigg and Robert Abrall were granted 1250 acres in New Kent, and in 1663, George Bryar and Richard Lawrence received 3,000 acres for trans. 60 persons, 3 of which were: Peter Ware, Jno. Pigg and Jno Garrett. Their relationship appears to be based on the 1665 New Kent land grant held jointly by Nicholas Ware and John Garrett. [1] Elizabeth Ware Immigration To America - When and Where? Elizabeth Ware’s father, Peter Ware and at least a part of his family probably immigrated first in the Plymouth Colony, but due to religious disagreement moved by 1646 to the Hampton Parish in Virginia. We find Peter Ware in Ireland in 1636 selling his property before coming to America by way of England. Some records have all of Peter Ware’s children immigrating with him in 1646 -- if so Elizabeth Ware would have been 12 years old. Other records report that Elizabeth Ware “wanted to join her father and brother in Virginia” thus suggesting that she did not immigrate in 1646 but stayed in England until she came over with John GARRETT II in 1664.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elizabeth:

I certainly hope someone can unravel this Garrett mess. I tried for several months years ago and kept getting so much contradictory information I finally just threw up my hands and gave up. I was trying to find the link between my 5 th great grandfather William Garrett 1745-abt 1800. Many DNA relatives link him to this Garrett line through one Reuben Garrett but I find that link dubious, even the existence of this person at that time although there are a few namesakes in our line with DNA links. My grandfather, Rufus EVANS Garrett seems to be a reference to William Evans Garrett of the Garrett snuff connection. DNA links to other family members has helped but I remain unconvinced by either of these branches for the present....

John Garrett II and Elizabeth Ware Marriage

John's second marriage was to Elizabeth Ware in 1664. She was born February 13, 1635 in Dublin, Ireland. Most records show that Mary and William's mother was Elizabeth Ware; however, they were born before Elizabeth Ware married John and shortly before Nannie Harrison died. Probably Nannie's death resulted from Mary's birth. Source: Ancestry.com; stefleupagus added this on 26 Dec 2009

Find A Grave seems to have an error on her parents, and only speak of 4 children; https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/153482580/elizabeth-garrett

There is a 66 year span between her first and last child. Are all of these children hers? Do the dates need to be researched and adjusted?

Thank you for checking this!

I've removed Nicholas Garrett, Thomas Garrett, and John Garrett as children of Elizabeth Ware. Nicholas has a birth date of 1640, Thomas a birth date of 1646, and John a birth date of 1630. Elizabeth was born in 1635 so she couldn't possibly be the mother of these three Garretts. Nicholas may be the brother of Elizabeth's husband or these birth dates are in error. John is also listed as Elizabeth's husband. I've left that connection in tact. They are recorded here in case we need them in the future.
