Nicholas was born 06 Feb 1776 in Caroline County, Virginia, the son of Robert Ware and Margaret Tankersley . His family removed to Edgefield, South Carolina and then to Augusta, Georgia. He studied law in Augusta and the Litchfield Law School, Connecticut, and was admitted to the Georgia Bar.
Nicholas was a planter and slave owner, entered politics in 1808, and served:
Georgia House of Representatives, 1808-1811, 1814-1815
Mayor of Augusta, 1819-1821
US Senate, 1821-1824
Nicholas passed away in 1824.
