Biography

Joseph Ware was the great grandfather of Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, and is named on his daughter's death certificate.

Not much is known of him, other than he was buried, with the rest of his family, at Box hill Cemetrey in Melbourne on 17/12/1921.

He married Elizabeth Ann Stephens in Melbourne in 1866 and they had three children at Richmond: Elizabeth Ann Ware, Emily (b 1868 d 1872 Richmond), and Charles.

Joseph died on 14 December 1921. He was living at Bay Street, Port Melbourne. His daughter Elizabeth Ann Maddocks was the administratrix of his will.[1]

Research Notes

He should not be confused with Joseph Ware of Minjah station, Warrnambool, who died in 1894 aged 75.
