Biography

Sarah E Weir daughter of John Weir and Mary Welles was born 1864 in Iowa.

She married George E Jenks on 24 Dec 1880 in Fort Dodge, Webster, Iowa, United States. George was the son of H. L. Jenks and Sarah Van Cankenburg (Van Valkenburg?). He was born 1853 in New York, United States.[1]

Their children were:
Clyde Carl Jenks born 1883 who married Ida May Reber born 1884 daughter of James Reber and Mary Beine on 24 Mar 1902 in Cherokee County, Iowa, United States.[2]Sarah is listed as Sarah S. Jenks and George is listed as George Electas Jenks on this marriage license. Records also indicate a second marriage for Clyde Carl Jenks on 23 May 1917 in Cherokee, Iowa, United States to Maud E. Murphy Rae. She is the daughter of John D. Murphy and Lucie Menetrem. She first married Unknown Rae previous to her marriage to Clyde C Jenks and is listed as a widow.[3]Sarah E Weir is listed as Ware on this census.

William Electas Jenks born 22 Sep 1881[4] who married Anna Witt on 01 Feb 1911 in Cherokee, Iowa, United States. She was the daughter of Henry Witt and Sophia Ide born 1892.[5]His mother is listed as Sarah S Ware on the 1st transcription and as Sarah S. Idore Jenks on the 2nd transcription. While George is listed as George Estis Jenks on the 2nd.

Bertha May Jenks born 1888 who married Mansfield Bruce Matthews on 14 Sep 1910 in Cherokee Co., Iowa, United States. He was born in 1885 and his parents show as William Matthews and Estella Hunter.[6]This transcription shows Sarah E Weir as Sarah E Warr.

The 1895 Census for Cherokee, Iowa, United States list the following household members: George E. Age 41; Sarah S age 30; Willard E age 13; Clyde C age 11; Bertha M age 5; and Sarah Jenks(mother of George Jenks) age 69.[7]

We find Sarah in the 1905 Iowa Census with the following information: Sarah S Jenks age 40 keeping house.[8]

She is also listed as Sarah S Jenks on the 1915 Census for Iowa. This record indicates that both her parents were born in Indiana while she was born in Iowa.[9]

She died 09 Feb 1916 and was buried in Oakhill Cemetery in Cherokee County, Iowa. Her transcription at Find a Grave list her as Sarah Saphrona Jenks born June 1864. This online transcription shows her maiden name as Weir with her parents listed as John Ware and her mother as Mary Elizabeth Spangler Ruday Ware.[10]Further research would be needed on this reference as I have not throughly researched the information listed.

Name confusions

The records for George Electas Jenks and Sarah Saphrona Ware are unusually inconsistent. Based on preponderance of the available records it is likely that Sarah's last name is spelled Ware and that her middle name is Saphrona though records of either of the couple vary as Geo. or George, A. or E. or Electas, Sarah or Sara, E. or S. or Saphrona, or Weir or Ware or Ward or Warr or Idore. Further research into records for John W based on identification of family relations by locations and dates seems to suggest that Weare is a possible alternate spelling for the frontier family.
