Biography

Ida was born in 1845. She was the daughter of Lindsay Ware and Lydia Morgan. Ida was sometimes listed as Iowa Ware or Iowa Ida Ware. Her residences range from Lick Creek, Van Buren, Iowa to Lincoln, Putnam, Missouri, Cunningham, Chariton, Missouri, Beaver, Beaver, Oklahoma. Iowa Wear is listed as a cook in an unnamed Hotel in Cunningham, Chariton, Missouri, on June 11, 1880. Family lore tells us Ida Ware participated in the Oklahoma Land Rush to establish a claim to land in Beaver County, Oklahoma where she made her home in a dugout and farmed to make her living. Even though she never married, she remained very supportive of many members of her family throughout her lifetime. According to a copy of Ida's Obituary purportedly published in the Beaver, Oklahoma Newspaper of 1918 or 1919; she moved from her farm to make her home with a niece (Mrs. H. M. Bulick) in Beaver, Oklahoma. The article states she made this relocation approximately 1 year prior to her death and was in poor health during that period.

Even though I never had an opportunity to meet this lady during her lifetime, I have a great respect for her as a fine example of a woman of great strength of character who made her own way in the world in a period of time that presented few opportunities for a single lady. I am proud to say she is my 3 x great aunt.
