Robert served in the American Revolution. He first enlisted as a private, answering the alarm of 19 April 1775.[2] He was 36 years old on 29 June 1778, and was in Captain Cowel's company in Colonel Harris' regiment, to reinforce the continental army. The card describes him as 5 ft. 4 in. tall, dark complected with dark hair and grey eyes. He was a husbandman and resided in Wrentham. He mustered in in Dorchester, Massachusetts.[3]
On 20 November 1782, Robert married Elizabeth Cobb Whipple.[4]
He was lost overboard in a storm at sea off Nova Scotia in November 1784.
