Born in Caroline County, Virginia, died in Gloucester, Virginia. Poisoned by a slave as documented in court proceedings on 9/20/1765 in Goochland Co., Virginia (proceedings available at: Goochland Historical Society - Goochland Co., VA; “Court of Oyer and Terminer held for Goochland County the 20th day of September 1765) …”for the trial of Dick a negro man slave belonging to William Harrison of the said county & Peg a negro woman slave belonging to John Ware of the county aforesaid.”

Birth location- Fairly certain. His father James Ware (1745-1796) and mother Agnes Todd (1714-1790) were married on 4/25/1753 (source see-http://waregenealogy.com/index.htm) James, his father settled in Caroline County, Virginia from 1736--1753, thus allowing for Richard's birth in Caroline County.

Death location- Goochland Historical Society - Goochland Co., VA Court proceedings, Sep 20, 1765, Goochland Co., VA. Trial of Dick, negro slave, accused of poisoning Richard Ware, causing his death.

The findings stated in part:

"At the Court of Over & Terminer held for Goochland County the XXth day of September MDCCLXV for the Trial of Dick a negro man Slave belonging to William Harrison of the said County & Peg a negro woman Slave belonging to John Ware of the County aforesaid."

"Whereupon the said Prisoner Dick being brought to the Barr in Custody of the Sheriff...and having with the approbation of the Court waved the Prosecution against the Slave Peg in order to have the benefit of her Testimony angst. the said Slave Dick ...charging him with Feloniously preparing & exciting a certain Medicine & mixture of a poisonous Quality with a felonious evil and wicked Intent that the same should be given and administered to one Richard Ware, and did deliver the same to the said Slave Peg, advising and directing her to give and administer the same to the said Richard Ware....

Which she did, thus killing Richard Ware.

Ware-234 and Ware-849 are referencing the same FindAGrave memorial and might be duplicates. They have different parents listed however, and their birth year differs 42 years.
