James was born in 1742. He is the son of James Ware and Agnes Todd. He passed away in 1820.
James II Ware, obviously named for his father, was born on March 13, 1741, also in Gloucester County, Virginia.[1]
James later studied medicine and moved to Caroline County to set up his practice. It was in that county that he met young Virginia Catherine Todd, a close neighbor. Her nickname was Caty and she “was the daughter of Dr. James Todd, an eminent physician and a Scotchman.”[2]
James and Caty has their first son in 1769, and named him Thompson. married his first wife, Sallie Conn
Military records show that James II was “a cavalry soldier in a Virginia unit” & he is listed as a Revolutionary War Patriot. Once the war was over and they did move from Gloucester to Frederick County, James and his wife probably lived in Winchester for “there is a deed still on record there that conveys to him half an acre of land in Winchester in 1781.[2]
Thompson Ware b. 1769 Thompson and Sallie Conn were married in 1799. They had 12 children.
James III Ware b.January 13, 1771 married 1) Elizabeth Alexander, the only daughter of Morgan and Elizabeth (Snickers) Alexander. Elizabeth died August 29, 1803. m (2) Harriet Taylor they had 6 children
Mary Todd (Polly) Ware b. September 4, 1772. married Charles Webb (d,1806) on February 24, 1791. She was 19, he was 36.
Lucy Catherine Ware b.November 12th, 1773 m. Captain Isaac Webb (b.1758), brother of Charles Webb who married her sister Polly.

George Ware born on February 9, 1779. arried a neighbor’s daughter, Nancy Ferguson On October 8, 1812. They had 10 children.

"In 1791 Dr. W. removed with his family to KY., accompanied also by the Webbs, reaching there June 16, 1791. He had previously sent out an overseer with negroes to clear ground and make a settlement on the place where he subsequently lived and died. He had visited Ky. in the fall of 1784, and remained there over the winter. Then the inhabitants lived in "Stations" In 1789 he revisited Ky. and left his sons Thompson and James there. Of his seven children all were living Jan. 12, 1801 save James as per letter of that date. Previous to 1791 he practiced medicine in Caroline County; was called "one of the finest looking men to be found anywhere". In 1771 he removed to Fred'k county, VA. A deed is still extant which conveyed to him half an acre of land in Winchester, VA. for 12,000 Pounds current money in VA. in 1781."

He homesteaded in Fayette County around Lexington according to a letter he wrote to RBH. He lived and died there.
