Biography

Walter (Warner) Saunders is an Indigenous Australian.

Walter (Warner) Saunders is an Anzac who served in World War One.

Walter George Christopher (Chris) Warner, later Saunders, was born about 1894 at Purnim, Victoria. His parents were George Christopher Warner and Eliza Mitchell. ^{[1] [2]}

Walter married Mabel Bessiebell Barbara Arden in 1920.^[3]

He married a second time to Phyllis Foster in 1935. ^[4]

Chris and Mabel had two sons: Reginald born in 1920 and Harry

Chris died in 1979 at Portland, Victoria. ^[2]

Research Notes

From the AWM, Aboriginal ANZACS site, William Reginald Rawlings (1891-1918) was said to be Chris's uncle. I haven't yet been able to establish a specific family connection. One possibility is that William Rawlings-1803 was the grandson of Georgina (Saunders) Rawlings (abt.1834-bef.1864) and Chris's mother was first married to Henry Saunders (abt.1850-), although it seems he was Chris's step-father rather than father. To date, I haven't been able to find a family link between Georgina and Henry Saunders.
