Martha Galpin married Doctor Ebenezer Warner in 1704. Ref: William Cothren, History of Ancient Woodbury, CT, Waterbury, CT:Bronson Brothers, 1854,p. 544. Dr. Ebenezer Warner, fourth of six children of John and Margaret Warner married Martha Galpin of Woodbury, CT. Their children were born in Woodbury. Dr. Ebenezer Warner was a man of that stamp who are said to "Take up their profession in their own head", which means that they were not regularly bred physicians. They used, principally, combinations of roots, herbs and other domestic medicines in their practice, and several of them became distinguished for their success in treating disease. They are also said to have used freely the "gall of rattlesnakes." He often went abroad to practice in the neighboring plantations. To prevent this, and secure his valuable services, the town granted him 60 acres of land in the original town plot, "for his Incurigement to practice phissick in ye town and attend the sick in ye town rather than strangers." He lived to a good old age, useful in his sphere, and respected by the people; and died carrying with him the commendations of all who knew him.

Doctor Warner joined the First Congregational Church in Woodbury, CT 17 July, 1720, Martha Warner joined 25 Feb 1722. Frances Warner joined 11 July 1742.

In 1724, during an Indian attack, Lt. Ebenezer Warner was appointed to raise a scout for the defense of the frontiers of the town. This service he accomplished, as appears by a memorial from him, preferred at the May session of the General Assembly in 1725. He paid the men he enlisted for service on Sundays as well as on week days, which was not allowed by the accounting officers. History of Ancient Woodbury, p. 99. He is listed as Physician, his son Benjamin is listed as physician, New Milford.

  • An interesting relationship of the grandchildren of Ebenezer Warner and Martha Galpin:
    • His son Benjamin was the father of Col. Seth Warner of Revolutionary War fame.
    • His daughter Tamar and husband Remember Baker were the parents of Capt. Remember Baker.
    • Remember Baker's sister Mary married Joseph Allen and they were the parents of Ethan Allen of Rev. War fame
    • His daughter Frances and Benjamin Oviatt were the parents of Elisha Oviatt

Ebenezer Warner-1615 and Ebenezer Warner-3487 should be merged, there are two profiles with marriage to Martha Galpin. Ebenezer, and his two brothers John and Ephraim were all doctors.

These two records for Captain/Doctor Ebenezer Warner refer to the same person and should be merged. FYI: his mother was Margaret Howard Warner, not Lydia Boltwood. That needs to be corrected.

Martha Galpin is married to both Warner-3487 and Warner-1615. Which of these profiles is the correct husband?

There are no duplicates on the linked children.

Warner-3487 biography matches most of the info on Warner-1615. FAG has now been added to both records causing a Data Error.

(There are also 2 FAG records in this profile 17851334 and 44343929, which is a problem on Find a Grave site, that I have reported. Update Nov 2019, these FAG profiles have been merged)

Sally Fabro is correct: Ebenezer was the son of John and Martha Howard. born in 1650 in Farmington (Hartford County), Connecticut. She was the daughter of Robert Howard (aka Hayward) and Lydia Kilbourne Howard.
