Biography

Birth

Daniel Warner was born 6 May 1717 in East Haddam, Connecticut. He was the son of John and Mehitabel Chapman Warner.[1][2]

Marriage

Daniel married Elizabeth Clark at East Haddam. Transcriptions of church records provide different dates: July 28, 1774.[3] July 28, 1767 [4]and 28 July 1768.[5]

Daniel would have been 50 at the time of his marriage.

Daniel and Elizabeth had the following children, born in East Haddam:

  1. Elizabeth b 27 March 1772
  2. Anna b 21 Apr 1774 m. Pardon Winslow
  3. Daniel b 9 July 1776 m. Nancy Brainerd
  4. Phebe b 27 Jul 1782 d. 14 Feb 1794

Uncertain parents

There seems to be some disagreement regarding which Daniel married Elizabeth Clark. The Descendents of Andrew Warner lists him under John and Mehitabel, yet expresses doubt that this is correct:

Family records and the publisher account "One of the Warner Family" 1892, has said that Daniel who married Elizabeth Clark and resided in East Haddam was the son of John and Mehitabel (Richardson) Warner, but the present compiler feels there has been a lost record of an intervening generation. In th record of the marriage, 1769, he is referred to as Daniel Jr. and he would be 52 years old at that time. No other definitive proofs have been discovered, and no record of the older Daniel's family. The older Daniel may have spent most of his life in Sunderland, and had only the one son.[10]

However, this may not take into consideration that the ages at death for Daniel and Elizabeth show a considerable age difference between the two. Daniel's will confirms that that his wife was Elizabeth. (Although it is possible that there were two Daniel's both married to Elizabeths)

There is also a slight inconsistency in the birth date between the birth record and age at death. The Descendants of Andrew Warner gives the DOB for son of John & Mehitabel Warner as 6 May 1717.[11] His headstone says he died in his 82nd year (which would be age 81) and the Connecticut death records estimate his year of birth as 1719. This is probably more consistent with Daniel the son of John Warner and Tabitha Abbe born 25 May 1719. However, that branch of the family seems to be residing in Stafford, Connecticut at the time, making it probable that he was the Daniel Warner who marred Anne Pember.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Daniel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Daniel:
