John Warr was born in 1841 at South Newington in Oxfordshire. He was the son of Joseph Warr and his wife Mary Bartlett.[1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
At the time of the 1841 census, John Warr was living at South Newington with Joseph and Mary Warr (presumably his parents) and their other children. His age was given as 1 month, implying a birth date in May 1841. [2]
John Warr was baptised at South Newington parish church on 9 August 1841, as the son of Joseph and Mary Warr, of South Newington. His father was a labourer. [3]
In 1851 John Warr was living at South Newington with his parents, Joseph and Mary, and their other children. His age was given as 8, implying a birth date in 1842 or 1843. His birthplace was given as Southnewton [that is, South Newington], Oxfordshire. [4]
In 1861 John was living in the High Street in South Newington with his parents and their other children. His age was given as 19, implying a birth date in 1841 or 1842. His birthplace was given as South Newington. He was an agricultural labourer. [6]

Why this John Warr might have died in 1842
Buried 17 APR 1842. South Newington,Oxf.
Note: based on S.N. parish records it appears that this John Warr was bp 9 Aug 1841 & was bu 17 Apr 1842 & that the next son (who appears in the 1851 census) was also named John Warr.
Why this John Warr did not die in 1842
I think that the understandable conclusion that the John Warr who was buried in April 1842 is this John Warr is actually wrong.
The child who was buried was 16 months old (in early April 1842); and so was probably born late in 1840; and at the time of the 1841 census, would have been about 6 months old. There is exactly such a child in the 1841 census in South Newington, born to James and Prudence Warr, and 6 months old. [10] The same couple had a child they called Jonathan in 1846, and in the 1851 census, only Jonathan, not John, appears.
On the other hand, the John Warr who is the son of Joseph and Mary Warr was said to be 1 month old at the time of the 1841 census. His age was not reported consistently in the census returns, but it's not impossible that the John Warr who appears in later censuses is the one born in 1841 rather than a later child of Joseph and Mary.
There is no civil birth registration record for another John Warr with mother's maiden name BARTLETT after 1841. (Hawkes-813 14:39, 11 September 2023 (UTC))
