Biography

Lucy Warr (incorrectly spelled Wall in a few records) was born in 1844 and christened on 10 Nov 1844 at Barford, Warwickshire, England. She was the daughter of Charles Warr and Elizabeth King.[1][2]

In the 1851 census Lucy was age 6 living at Cookes Lane, Barford, Warwickshire with her father Charles Warr (35), mother Elizabeth Warr (37), brothers Thomas Warr (11), William Warr (10), George Warr (8), Charles Warr (3), sister Ann Warr (5).[3]

Lucy married Robert White on 28 Nov 1863 at Rowington, Warwickshire.[4] They had ten children: Lucy Ann White (b. 1864), George White (b. 1867), Alice White (b. 1868), Selina White (1870–1874), Frederick White (b. 1873), Elizabeth White (b. 1877), Henry White (b. 1880), Daisy White (b. 1882), Edith White (1886–1889), Arthur White (b. 1888).

In the 1871 census, Lucy was age 26 living at Hampton Lucy, Warwickshire with her husband Robert White (29), daughters Lucy Ann White (6), Alice White (2), Selina White (0), son George White (4).[5]

In the 1881 census, Lucy was age 36 living at Snitterfield, Warwickshire with her husband Robert White (39), daughters Alice White (12), Elizabeth White (3), sons George White (14), Fredrick White (8), Henry White (0).[6]

Lucy's husband Robert died in 1889.

In the 1891 census, Lucy was age 46, widow, living at Ingon Lane, Hampton Lucy, Warwickshire with her sons Fredrick White (18), Henry White (10), Arthur White (2), daughters Elizabeth White (13), Daisy White (8). Occupation: Laundress.[7]

In the 1901 census, Lucy was age 56 living at Ingon Lane, Hampton Lucy, Warwickshire with her son Arthur White (12), daughters Elizabeth White (23), Daisy White (18). Occupation: Laundress.[8]

In the 1911 census, Lucy was age 66 living at Ingon Lane, Hampton Lucy, Warwickshire with her daughters Elizabeth White (33), Daisy White (28). Occupation: Laundress.[9]

Lucy White of Ingon Lane, Hampton Lucy died on 29 Apr 1937 age 92.[10][11] The following death notice was published in the local newspaper:[12]

NONAGENARIAN'S DEATH
The death on Thursday week of Mrs. White, of Ingon Cottage, at the age of 92 years, removes the oldest resident in the parish of Hampton Lucy. Born at Barford and married at Rowington, Mrs. White had had ten children, of whom six survive. She had 16 grandchildren and eleven great-grand-children. She lost her youngest son and three grandsons in the Great War. At the age of 81 Mrs. White broke a leg, but under the care of Dr. Sutcliffe (the only doctor she ever had) and her two daughters she recovered sufficiently to get about again, and had been in fairly good health until the last three months. She was left a widow at the age of 45. The funeral took place at Snitterfield on Monday in the cemetery adjoining the churchyard where her husband lies. The Rev. K. St. Clair Thomas officiated. The mourners were: Mr. F. White (son), Mrs. Scrivens and the Misses Bessie and Daisy White (daughters), Mr. and Mrs. W. White, Ken and Arthur (grandchildren), and Mrs. E. White (daughter-in-law). - Messrs A. E. Bennett and Sons carried out the funeral arrangements.
