Abel was born on 3 Aug., 1789 in Hampton, Washington Cty., NY. He was the son of Caleb Warren and Rachel Webster. on 16 Jan., 1814 he married Sarah Hooker in Hampton, Washington Cty., NY[1]. Rev. Abel Warren served his county in the War of 1812, holding the rank of Sergeant with the 23rd U.S.Infantry[2][3]At least up through Sept, 1862 he received a monthly allowance of $8.00[4][5]. Abel was in partnership with an unknown person when they sold a farm in Covington, Genesee Cty., NY (now Wyoming Cty) to Joseph Durfee in 1822[6].
Some time between 1822 and Oct., 1824 Abel and family moved to Shelby Township, Macomb Cty., MI. Rev. Abel Warren purchased 80 acres for the price of 10 shillings per acre[7] of land in west 1/2 of southwest 1/4 of Section 4 of Shelby Township, Macomb Cty., Michigan on 20 Oct 1824 [8]and soon thereafter moved his family from Genesee County, New York to Shelby Township. Rev. Abel Warren was a M.E. Minister and was the first man licensed to preach in the Territory of Michigan. He was a pioneer Circuit Rider Preacher, and traveled on foot at times twenty miles or more on the Sabbath to preach throughout the Macomb County area. He would preach in many different places and weather[9]. And he married many couples, especially from 1830-1833 in Malcolm Cty[10]. Abel Webster was among the first settlers of Shelby Township. He was elected Clerk in the first election of the township held in 1827 on the last Monday in May (28 May) and also pound keeper[11]. Abel was a trustee of the Romeo Academy[12]. He passed away on 5 Sept., 1862 in Shelby Twp., Macomb Cty., MI. He was buried in South Washington Cemetery, Washington, Macomb County, MI[13][14][15].
