Biography

Disambiguation

There is more than one Margaret Warren. It is easy to confuse them, and the profiles of each Margaret may contain details which belong to another. For this reason it is important to referred to them by their married names and identify here the salient facts about each.  :

  • Margaret Warren Hill. Margaret de Warren, born about 1378 in Shropshire, England, wife of Griffith Hill, and the daughter of Griffith Warenne.
  • Margaret Warren Browne, Margaret de Warren, born about 1374 in Poynton, Cheshire, wife of Richard Browne, and the daughter of Margaret de Stafford and [[Warenne-82|John de Warenne].
  • Margaret Warren Mainwaring , Margaret Warren, born 1425 or 1475, who married William Mainwaring appears to have lived a hundred years later, marrying William in 1499. She was the daughter of either Isabel Warmingham or Isabel Cheney and and either Griffin Warren or John Warren.

Noted genealogist Todd Farmerie notes that the Warenne of Ightfield line, that apparently descends from Warenne of Whitchurch, and in turn from a junior Warenne family, separate from the line of the earls at least as early as the Conquest...as it appears, is largely bogus. The wives can't be trusted, and the exact connections are dubious. Even the contemporary records are problematic to interpret. This has been discussed extensively in the archives (search for Warenne and Ightfield or Warren and Ightfield). [1]

UNKNOWN-52998 and Warren-176 appear to represent the same person because: Meant to be the same person according to bio.
UNKNOWN-52998 and Warren-176 do not represent the same person because: Other than sharing a first name, married name, and birth date/place, there are not many facts lining up. No husband matches, no children match (although they both have a son named Thomas, the details show they are two separate persons), and the death place does not match. There is a similarity in the date of death with one being 1402 and the other approximately so, but this can be conincidental or simply wrong in one case or the other.

I agree Isaac. There's no reliable sources given. John Warenne & Margaret Stafford had 2 kids Nicholas & Margaret. I couldn't find any other kids and no sources say who Margaret married only that of Nicholas. Richard Browne wasn't the dad of Thomas Browne. Robert Browne was.

Could the profile manager(s) please remove all the non-sources from this profile, for example Geni and Ancestry etc. They can't ever support medieval genealogy here on WikiTree, or the internet will just go around in circles copying un-sourced claims rather than relying on actual evidence from primary source artifacts and reputable professional (peer reviewed) secondary sources.

Respectfully, even the SGM post given here doesn't really qualify as a source, but rather a pointer towards sources.

Suggest a wholesale deletion of older Geni and Ancestry stuff and focus on what's proven by evidence, even if that means disconnections and shifting unknowable LNABs to UNKNOWN etc.

Thoughts?

Respectfully,
