Hello Maureen,

I am just trying to fill in the first stages of my tree at the moment, (after some glitches signing up!) So far so good. Comforting to know that you are there if I get stuck. Merion Warren-18506

Hi John

I'm more than happy to help. From just a brief look at your family tree, you seem to be doing really well. As you have English and Welsh ancestry, one thing I would recommend is the England Project's Orphan Trail. I did this when I first joined WikiTree. I was assigned a "Trailblazer" a friendly mentor and it really helped my confidence and especially with information on how to format sources on my ancestor profiles. Here's the link to the England Project https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:England.

Best wishes

Maureen ~ WikiTree Greeter

Hi Maureen, Thanks for being there!

I have two problems. First I seem to have entered two profiles, for both myself and also for my father. What is the process to eliminate one of each? second. When I first became aware of WikiTree in January 2021 from distant cousins in NZ/Aus, my wife registered, started a tree and tried to get a gedcom file to download from Ancestry where she does most of her work. Then when I registered and started to enter profiles last week (18-03-2021) I failed to quote the WikiTree number for Helen, and also didn't realise the significance of the list of profiles offered to choose from, and ignored them. So I have not been able to link to Helen's profile. How can I fix that? Apologies that you are having to deal with a geriatric luddite here, but I am trying! Merion John Warren 18506 I have edited my preferred name to John, as that is the name most people know me by

Hi John

Firstly, with regard to duplicate profiles of living people, only the WikiTree Team can fix this by merging the 2 accounts. You need to send an email to "info atsign wikitree.com" In the email you will need to give them the WikiTree Ids of the relevant accounts (e.g. Warren-18506 and Warren-?????) and tell them which are the ones you need to keep.

Here is a link to the Help Page on merging profiles https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Merging. This mainly relates to merging deceased duplicates. I have to admit I haven't completely got my head round it. The best thing is not to create any duplicates!! It's an important concept on WikiTree. If you find that a direct ancestor is already on WikiTree - link them in to your line as a parent etc. and ask the existing profile manager if you can be put on the Trusted List - if you're interested in doing work on them.

As regards linking to your wife's profile, ask the Team "info atsign wikitree.com" about that too. I haven't got a link to my husband on here. I've started his tree from his deceased parents backwards.

I hope this helps, I'm rather geriatric too, although not a Luddite! I have relatives in Coventry and did Librarianship training in Lougborough. It's a small world isn't it.

Kindest regards

Hi Merion and thank you for upgrading, 😊

I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

You mentioned that you don’t know much about your family tree yet. I assume you are new to genealogy. No problem! Every genealogist is a beginner at some point. Take your time, keep track of sources and ask questions. Check here for tips.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Happy tree climbing

PS Did you know that Tags become clickable links to others researching those names, or places, that you are interested in. They also control what is included in the family activity emails from WikiTree.
