Lyman Warren was born in Birkshire, Massachusetts on 9 August 1794.[1]He moved to Champlain, New York at some point in his youth. Lyman and his brother Truman entered the Great Lakes fur trade in 1817, working for Charles Oakes Ermatinger. At the time, they were living in La Prairie, Quebec. Four years later, they purchased his Lac du Flameau outfit from him, then sold it to the American Fur Company in 1822. In 1823, Lyman and Truman purchased their father-in-law's interests in trade upon his retirement. Lyman was one of six partners of the Lake Superior Outfit of the American Fur Company and was appointed chief factor at La Pointe in 1834. He continued to be associated with the American Fur Company until 1838. After leaving the American Fur Company, he was part owner of a lumber mill on the Chippewa River in northwestern Wisconsin. From 1841 to 1843, he was a farmer for the Chippewa River Ojibwe.[2]
Lyman passed away on 10 October 1847 and was buried in La Pointe.[1]
