Jean Bonython was born in Adelaide in 1891, the elder daughter of merchant, Charles Warren and his wife, Alice Maria, née Downer. After a private schooling in Adelaide she went on to the University but her studies came to an end with her marriage in 1911 to widower, Sir John Lavington Bonython. Constance became stepmother to his three children, and subsequently gave birth to three children of her own. [1]
She married Sir John Lavington Bonython on 11 December 1912 in St John's Anglican Church, Halifax Street, Adelaide, South Australia. [2]
Lady Bonython passed away in June 1977 and is buried at the Centennial Park Cemetery in Pasadena South Australia. [3]

ADELAIDE: One of South Australia's most outstanding women, Lady (Constance Jean) Bonython, died on Saturday night, aged 84.
Lady Bonython, who was made an OBE in 1954, was a former Lady Mayoress of Adelaide and a tireless worker for charities.
She was the widow of Sir Lav-ington Bonython, a former Lord Mayor of Adelaide.
She married Sir Lavington in 1912 when she was 21. Sir Lavington had three children from his first marriage: John, Betty (now Lady Wilson) and Ada (Mrs Denis Heath).
Sir Lavington and Lady Bonython had three children: Warren, Katherine (Mrs Colin Verco) and Kym.
