Biography

Birth

Nathaniel was born at Plymouth[1] and according to his deposition his year of birth was 1624.[2]

Nathaniel's Life

"His home was at Eel River,[1][3] and he had land in the vicinity of the present Summer Street, [4] Plymouth, near what was formerly called Prence's Bottom, [5] "Thomas Prence.......lived...... on land near what is now the Junction of Spring and High Streets...ten acres in extent....was called in the inventory of Mr. Prence ...."Prence's Bottom" and bounded by the Town Brook [6] and the ministerial lands. The last mentioned land is possibly that granted to him 5 June 1662, in consideration of being one of the first born children (sic) in the colony."

In the 1643 census Nathaniel was in Arm Bearers, Plymouth, Massachusetts.[7]

"...........Nathaniel was also the owner of Lot Number 5 in the Namasket or Middleborough purchase; had rights in Punckateesett on Seconnett River, now in Rhode Island, as well as grants at Agawam and Menomett Ponds. Mr Warren was a member of the Plymouth Militia in 1643; was chosen Surveyor of Highways in 1654; and Selectman in 1667, and representative to the General Court of Plymouth Colony, 1657-8-9, 1660, 1663-4-5." [1]

  • The purpose of the several footnotes in this section is to give the reader a flavor of Nathaniel's "neighborhood."

Marriage

"He Married, 19 November 1645 Sarah Walker, who died at Plymouth 24 November 1700, and who was the grand-daughter of Jane Collier (see The Mayflower Descendant Volume II, Page 64)., wife of William Collier of Duxbury." [1]

As another descendent - through the Delanos that went to Chile - and now in Southampton ...

Nathaniel was apparently the first child born to the Pilgrim community (see geni) His wife Sarah Walker ... did her mother die in Southwark? Did she come over with her Collier Grandparents and her father William Walker the rich grocer? His older sister Mercy ... married another ancestor, Jonathan Delano 1, whose father Philippe was on the Mayflower's companion ship, the Fortune.

Nathaniel's will says he is weak of body and ill ? ? (at ease?), which is probably the only clue as to his condition there is.

I am researching each set of grandparents from my line from Richard Warren down to my mother. Richard is my 11th great grandfather through his son Nathaniel Warren, through Nathaniel's daughter Mercy Warren. Then through the Delano family and many, many generations of the West family. Maudie Bell West was my mother's grandmother.

I am trying to find out as much as I can about each set of grandparents starting with Richard. Does anyone know of any documents state how they died? I was wondering because both Richard and Nathaniel died fairly young. I know people died young from all kinds of illnesses back then but the women sure seemed to outlive the men.

All Nathaniel Profile Managers and members of the Trusted List, this is a notice: Anyone who does not respond to this notice within 30 days will be removed at my request to the Project Manager, Becky. The content on here is 95% mine and I'm not even a Manager. I am only about 30% through enhancing Nathaniel's Profile. Reason? Nathaniel is my 8 x great grandfather. Thank you.

I assume Walker is a typo? Last name should be Warren.

Grant, I think you're right. That's what I have in my RootsMagic database from the Silver book. It is what I uploaded to WikiTree several years ago, but it, apparently, got changed during a merge operation. Thanks for fixing it.

Its my understanding that Nathaniel Warren did not die on October 21, 1667. He died between July 16, 1667 (codicil) and October 21, 1667 (inventory). (Robert S. Wakefield, Richard Warren of the Mayflower, (1995) pg. 7. Did that change in later editions?
