Dewey died after coming in contact with an 110,000 voltage Louisiana Power and Light Company electrical line. He came in contact with the high voltage line while 70 feet high on a pole working on a line that feeds power into International Paper Company. The voltage line is from the company's sub-station at Sterlington. [3] [4]

His surviving family members included: his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Warren, Mt. Olive; five brothers, Truitt Warren of England, Buford Warren of Natchez, Shelton [sic, s/b Felton] Warren, Bastrop, La., Bobby Ray Warren with the U. S. Army, and Oliver [sic, s/b Alvin Warren] of Mt. Olive; eight sisters, Mrs. Margie Runnels of Mt. Olive, Mrs. Wilson Evans of Prentiss, Mrs. Minnie Benton of Mendenhall, Mrs. Esma Miller of Jackson, Mrs. Earline Clay and Mrs. Alberta Mathews, both of Ohio, Mrs. Verl Wood of Louisiana, and Mrs. Geneva Scott of Jackson.
