Joseph sailed for NS on the Brig Elijah as part of the evacuation of Black loyalists in Nov 1783 at the age of 25. Beforehand he had resided in Eastern Shore, Virginia and had been owned by George Bundeck, whom he left in 1780. He was certified free as per General Musgrave Certificate [1]
