Biography

Birth

Warúxewįga was born about 1842 in Iowa Territory. (1900 Fed. census)

Name

The 1898 census gives her name as Waruhaewinkaw, which is an attempt to phonetically render the name Warúxewįga, "She Chases Them Off," a Wolf Clan personal name. (Foster, Dorsey) This is from wa-, a prefix meaning, "it, them"; rúxe, "to chase"; -wį-, a feminine gender infix; and -ga, a definite article suffix used in personal names.

In the censuses, she always goes exclusively by the name "Mrs. Asa Coleman".

Children

She appears to have had no children. However, in the 1886 census, Little Eagle is listed as a step-son.

Death

The last census in which she is recorded was 1907, so she probably died in that year or in 1908.
