Biography

Graveside services will be held for Elvin Fred Waterman, 79, of Bancroft at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at the Waterman Family Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Bridge Grange.

Elvin Fred Waterman was born Jan. 9, 1930, in the Waterman Century Farmhouse at Bancroft. He died Feb. 26, 2009.

Fred and Darlene Ford were married on Oct. 2, 1950, and lived on the family ranch, where they raised their family. He served with the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1956, serving two years in the Korean War. He was a well-known and respected timber faller working in Oregon and Washington. He was a member of the Elks Club, OHA, NRA and VFW. His hobbies included grafting fruit trees, checking on his redwood trees, tending to his cows, collecting guns and knives, hunting, gold mining on his family claim and "putter" jobs on his ranch. His house was always open because he loved company and he will be greatly missed. With the special help of Cheryl Waterman and Gary Evans, he was able to stay at his ranch through his illness.

Elvin is survived by his daughters, Judy Mason and husband Ron, Bobbye Conn and husband Richard and Kris Ford, whom he considered his son, and wife, Nona; grandchildren, Fred and Shawna Mason, Jerod and Monica Sutphin, Diana and Ryan Fox, Tara and Guy Blohm, Travis and Christi Wittlake, Alicia Conn and fiancŽ, Matt Goodson and Ashley Wittlake; and his great-grandchildren, Vince and RaiAnn Garcia, Kalye and Aiden Sutphin, Brenden Huffman, Mason and Branson Blohm, Travis Jr. Wittlake and Baylie and Logan Looney; his sister, Lillian Winkelman and husband, Howard; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his daughters, Darlene Ford; daughters, Deanna King and Carolyn Jo Wittlake; brothers, Dugan and Robert Waterman; and parents, Cap and Amanda Waterman.
