Biography

Data from Nantucket, MA Vital Records can be for events that occurred elsewhere. In addition their records provides multiples data points in some instances. For John's death: a. Dec. 25, 1798 from Probate Record of Isaac Coffin (Judge) and b. Dec. 27, 1798 from Personal Record of William C. Folger. Both are seen in Nantucket's Vital Records. ^[1]

Birth is recorded in Nantucket w/ no specific date but as the son of John and his first wife Elizabeth Beard.^[2] The Jacobus book however says John was the son of John and his 2nd wife Mary.^[3] pg. 390. There are a number of references in the Nantucket record to Elizabeth Beard Waterman as his mother. Jacobus is the exception and estimates his birth as sometime in 1761.

Will John's will was dated 23 Sept. 1794 and probated 1 Aug 1799.^[4] In it he names "father" Stephen Hussey Executor and wife Sarah Waterman Executrix. He mentions his four sons William, Charles, James, and John in that order.
