The death occurred at 1 o'clock on Wednesday morning of last week, of Mrs. Ellen Russell Garnett, a very old and well-known resident of this town. The event took place at her late residence at North Toodyay, after many weeks' illness, when death was due to heart failure.
The late Mrs. Garnett was the fourth daughter of the late Robert Waters, and was born in Toodyay 65 years ago. At the age of twenty two years was married to the late Edward Garnett, who predeceased her 17½ years ago. There were six children of the marriage, three sons—Robert (Katanning), Frank and Fred (Toodyay), and three daughters—Mrs. Basil Innes (Wagin), Mrs, E. J. Smith and Muriel (Toodyay). Together with the sons and daughters there are nine grandchildren to mourn their loss, the eldest being Tom, son of Robert of Katanning.
The funeral took place at four p.m. the same day, and was largely attended. Her remains were laid at rest in the Anglican portion of the Toodyay Cemetery, the Rev, J. Mason of-ficiating. The chief-mourners were:—Messrs Robert, Frank and Fred Garnett (sons), Messrs. T. Waters, E. Waters (brothers), Mr. Tom Garnett (grand-son), Mr, Robert Rogers (nephew), and Mr. E. J. Smith (son-in law.)[5]
