John was born in 1873. He was the son of John Waters and Hannah West. ^[1]

1891 census records John (aged 17) at home with his father John (aged 57), mother Hannah (aged 38), his brothers Arthur (aged 14), James (aged 12) and George (aged 4) and his sisters Rose (aged 15), Lily (aged 9) and Clara G (aged 1), address Talbot Street, Harwich ^[2]

1901 census records John (aged 27) at home with his father John (aged 58), mother Hannah (aged 48), his brothers Arthur (aged 24), James (aged 22), George (aged 14) and William (aged 5) and his sisters Lily (aged 19) and Clara (aged 11), address 17 Albert Street, Harwich ^[3]

1911 census records John (aged 37) at home with his father John (aged 70), mother Hannah (aged 52 or 58), his brothers, George (aged 25) and William (aged 15) and his sister Clara (aged 21), address Wilsons Cottages, Albemarle Street, Harwich ^[4]

Notes

Aug2023 - use of the GRO index has shown that Hannah Hobbs could not be the mother, but is instead Hannah West. However this is only a name at the moment as no birth/marriage records have been found Hannah Hobbs did marry a John Waters/Watters in 1869 - but the whole family is different. Therefore Hanna Hobbs has been removed as mother for all the children of John and Hannah
