William was a career military man, serving in the US Coast Guard.[7][8][9][10] He was deployed in 1927 when his wife, Margaret fell, hit her head, and died.[11] For a time, Doris and Billy were taken in by William's parents, William Waters and Mary Waters.[12] Shortly after, it was decided that their maternal aunt, Florence Lynch, and her husband George Coane would adopt them.
Note: While William died before the advent of DNA testing, a cousin of his has taken a yDNA test for me. We are looking to collaborate with more yDNA test takers; if you have, or are willing to take a yDNA test for the Waters line, please get in touch. Best-3719
