Biography

Christina was born in 1840. She was the daughter of John Waters and Marion Thompson. She passed away in 1908.

Many old -residents of this district will regret to learn of the death of Mrs Christina Elizabeth Yates Bertram, relict of the late Mr J. W. Bertram, of Halcombe, and one of the earliest settlers there, which took place at her residence, Devonport, Auckland, on Wednesday, at the age of 69 years. Mrs Bertram arrived in Wellington with her parents Mr and Mrs Nathaniel Sutherland, of Pipitea street, on 22nd January, 1841, in the Slains Castle. She was married in 1862 to Mr J. W. Bertram, who was drowned twenty-five years ago off the s.s. Huia, in Cook Strait. Mrs Bertram was highly esteemed by all who had the privilege of her acquaintance, and was for many years an active helper in temperance and church work. She was a good wife and a loving mother. She leaves a grown-up family of six to mourn their loss, including Mrs Ernest Carr, of Waituria; Miss Kate Bertram, of Devonport ; Dr. H. Bertram, of Rotorua Sanatorium ; the Rev. Ivo Bertram, Presbyterian minister, Devonport ; Mr James Bertram, farmer, Waikato; and Mr W. Bertram, Otago. There are fifteen grandchildren. [1]
