Mary was born in 1826. She passed away in 1898.
Mary was born about 1826. She is the daughter of Hugh Alexander McWaters and Margaret McCracken . Mary had been keeping company at home, with a young man originally from Muff, a little town on the west bank of Lough Foyle in County Derry. This was Robert Armstrong. They married a month before sailing for Australia.
Leaving Plymouth on the "Kate"(6th July 1851), they arrived in Sydney 8/10/1851. George Rankin came down to Sydney to meet them, leaving his young wife, Jane, seven months pregnant, to prepare a welcome at home. What a reuinion they had, all the more tearful and joyous for the elder girls when Mary told her news, for she too was expecting a child, in 5 months. This was to be a boy, called George.
She passed away in 1897.
