I am trying to make a connection with Harrison Watkins. I am researching a Cross family from Hampshire Co., VA: Perry Cross babt1810, Nancy Cross babt1812, their daughters and a son named John Harrison Cross babt1849. I recently found two of the Cross girls living with Harrison Watkins a53 bVA in Peoria, IL in 1860 census. He is listed as a farmer and innkeeper with Elizabeth Cross (my ggrandmother) as keeping house. I have been unable to find the maiden name of Nancy Cross and when I saw the girls living with Harrison Watkins and now finding he was from Hampshire Co. plus the fact that their only brother was named John Harrison made me wonder if there is a connection between these two families.
I think I've traced Harrison and Henry Watkins to Salem Twp, Warren Co., OH in 1850 - the only problem is that Harrison has a wife named Mary but I guess it's possible since Catherine died before 1850. I haven't found them in 1860 yet but I told you that Harrison pops up in IL in 1870 with Elizabeth and Louisa Cross and his son James (who obviously didn't die in 1855 in MD).
