Biography

Lillian was born in the Bahamas in 1864 to John and Mary E. Kemp Watkins.[1] [2]

She married William D Carey in 1885. They were both minors, according to the marriage record, but birth records suggest they were at least 21. William's unnamed father was deceased and he had no guardian. William worked as a teacher at a public school. They were married in the home of Lillian's father, John Watkins, in St James, Pear Cay, Bahamas.[3]

They had a daughter, Mary Elizabeth aka Mamie, born 1890 in Florida.

Lillian married her second husband, Abraham Carey, in Key West, Florida on 01 Jan 1900.[4] Mamie was ten when they married and shown on the 1900 census with Abraham and Lillian.[5] The census stated Lillian and Abraham had been married 7 years, which conflicts with their marriage on 1 Jan 1900. Lillian had given birth to 2 children, but only one was living.

The family were still living in Key West in 1910.[6] Lillian's mother, Mary E Watkins, was living with them, as well as daughter, Mamie (Maurie on the census transcription), and a nephew, Austin Carey.

Lillian passed away in Key West in 1910 due to Typhoid Fever.[7]
