Edward Watkins, born about 1747 (testified he was 85 years old in 1832), was a Private in the American Revolution. He died in Powhatan County, Virginia on 9 April 1835.[1]

He married Mary "Molly" Walthall in Chesterfield County, Virginia and had fourteen children.[2]

Obituary

DIED - on the 9th inst [April, 1835] at his residence in the county of Powhatan Mr. Edward Watkins [who] has left a wife and numerous offspring to bemoan his death.
He was the father of 14 children, the grandfather of between 70 and 80, and the great-grandfather of about that same number.[5]

Research Notes

His obituary stated he had fourteen children, but only a five are named in his will. Spencer Watkins wasn't named in the will, but he testified for his mother's widow's pension application for Edward's military service in the Revolution. The elder brother he mentioned, born before the Revolution, was Walthall Watkins.[1] Archibald and Spencer Watkins married sisters. Abner Watkins lived near them for several years in Buckingham. Later Abner removed to Rockingham County, North Carolina where Archibald and Spencer Watkins had earlier.
