Biography

Foster was born about 1805 in Kentucky according to the September, 1850 census. Listed spouse and children were: Susan (Horgcore) Watson age 38, Mary Watson (Bledsoe) age 19, Eliza Watson age 15, Martha Watson (Oxford) age 14, Pyda Watson age 11, and Thomas Watson age 5. Daughter Catharine M Watson (Davis) was married to Lemuel McQuary Davis in March of 1850. Foster's occupation was farmer.

The 1836 early tax list (no acerage and no slaves) and 1840 census record placed Foster and family in Montgomery, Tennessee: Free White Persons - Males - 30 thru 39 - 1 (Foster 35): Females - Under 5 - 1 (Pyda 1); Females - 5 thru 9 - 4 (Martha 5, Catherine 7, Mary 9, Nancy 13); Free White Persons - Females - 20 thru 29 - 1 (Susan 28).

Foster was listed in the 1850 Census. [1]

Foster Watson ... He passed away about 1853.[2] Most trees list 1853 as the death year for Foster. An 1860 census has not been found for either him or his wife Susan. In 1870 Susan was living with their daughter Mary Bledsoe and in 1880 was identified as widowed and living with their son Thomas. It would be reasonable to estimate death was before 1870.

Research Notes

Nancy Watson Darby Elfers was the eldest daughter of Foster. She was born in Kentucky about 1827 and married to Daniel Darby about 1845-1846. This matches the age of 13 on the 1840 census.

DNA matches to Denise Elmer through Foster's daughters Nancy, Catherine, and Mary confirm the father/daughter relationships.
