[1] On Friday last, from London direct, having left the Downs on the 27th April, the ship Lady Rowena, Captain Russell, with a general cargo of merchandise. Passengers, Mrs. Barker and four children, Mrs. Jones and one child, Mr. and Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Carlisle, Mr. and Mrs. Hooten, Mr. Hunt, Mr. Wainwright, Mr. Lefevre, Mr. and Mrs. Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. Davis and three children, John Standish, and George White.
William Watson accompanied his father and half-brother on this voyage, as crew.
The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954), Friday 1 June 1877. [2] MR. WILLIAM BOURN RUSSELL WATSON. - This gentleman died in Sydney on the 15th May, at the age of 61 years. He arrived in the colony in 1826 and shortly afterwards went to sea under Captain Russell, now the Hon. B. Russell, M. L. C. Subsequently he commanded a whaling vessel trading from Port Jackson. He spent several years in various mercantile pursuits on the Hunter River and in Sydney. Mr. Watson was an unsuccessful candidate for the electorate of the Williams some years ago, but was returned as the member for that electorate in December, 1874, in oppsition to Mr. Milner Stephen. When in Parliament, Mr. Watson was a stanch adherent of the Robertson Government, and while seriously ill with paralysis, brought on by an over-anxious interest on the educational question he was induced to attend the Assembly to support the Government, and thereby accelerated his death. He resigned his seat on the 15th January, 1877. Mr. Watson possessed considerable architectural ability and designed several beautiful edifices which he built in the city. [3] ELECTORATE OF THE WILLIAMS. - In the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, Mr. Speaker announced that Mr. William Watson had resigned his seat as representative of the electorate of the Williams. We hear that ill-health is the main cause of Mr. Watson's resignation. - S. M. Herald.
