It may seem morbid, but in the event of my untimely demise I want to be sure that none of my hard work on WikiTree ends up being deleted. While I fully intend on being around to manage all my profiles for a very long time, in the event of my incapacitation or death I hereby give permission for all of my private profiles to be transferred to Fritha Watson, whether or not she is currently on their Trusted Lists. Hi Derrick, you recently set the gender of Hatterlsey-219 to female. Thank you for explaining your reasoning. However, I don't understand what you say here:
"The GRO birth index lists her mother's maiden name as a blank - i.e. her mother was named Hattersley but was not married. Hattersley was not Lily's father's name."
The GRO birth index didn't include mother's maiden name until Q3 1911, did it? So we wouldn't expect to see it for Lily's birth, whether her mother was married or not. As far as I can see, she would still be registered as Hattersley if that was her father's name. Am I missing something?
Regards, Chris
it's good to know someone is out there reading what I disover and put on Wikitree. Thank you for the suggestion that I merge the two profile. I've just done it.

David O'Neill
Hi Derrick, Saw you added Leah Booth Dutcher's mother to her profile. Curious if you are related to the Booth line? Leah's father, Edwin Booth is the brother of my 2nd great grandfather. (I haven't added all the siblings yet.) Would love to connect regarding the Booth family. This line has some family lore that I can't seem to prove.
I see you would like me to make a correction to WikiTree anonymous 3225 Data base error774..
Please send me the name of this person, I should be able to find it that way.
I'm afraid I have limited Knowledge as to how the sight works and just can't understand the computer jargon.
I am 83 and can't follow their instructions. I have been doing a onename study ie: [Marriott, Merritt etc] for 43 year
and have much to offer. I just need the name. WikiTree has no instruction sight for finding a number. I am a trusted member but don't know how to pass it to you but I can make the adjustment.........Betty Marriott nee Eacott
Sorry to put you to any trouble !!!
I have sent a rejection to your question of John Gay 1702 and John Gay 1715, they are two separate people and I believe many trees inaccurately post John Gay 1702 as Mary Toghills wife. My rejected posted some specifics. May I ask what you interest in John Gay is? Do he fit into your tree somehow. I believe I descend from John Gay 1715 and Mary Toghill, so I have done a lot of research around them, although many things remain unclear. DNA testing is helping, but to are not enough male Gay DNA's that have tested.
I am Alfred Remmer's and Mary Ann Cooling's Great Grandson. I too thought he was born 1847 in Easingwold, but recent conversation with another member on Wikitree have led me to believe that this Alfred in 1847 is the nephew and my direct ancestor was born 1830, to Thomas and Sarah in Easingwold.
This was his commentary and I agree.
Let take a look at Alfred b 1830 First he was the son of Thomas Remmer
& Sarah Wilson
A farm servant in 1851 in the village of Thornton le Clay
In 1861 using 1830/1as his birth, he can be found a miller, living &
working in Huddersfield, with wife Ann & daughter Mary. He married Ann
Thompson in 1854, York, St Lawrence. In this marriage, he lists his
occupation as miller, father Thomas. A Francis Wilson was witness to
the marriage. Daughter Mary was born in 1855, and baptised in
Pocklington.
In 1871(b1831) he was a miller, living in Fulford, York with wife Ann,
daughter Mary.
Ann & Mary can be found in 1881 living in Clementhorpe, York. No
Alfred. Ann died in 1887.
Alfred appears in 1891 Census. He is listed as Alfred Remar, his birth
as 1848, a corn miller of unknown birth place living in Market
Weighton with Mary, son Alfred (Halifax), daughter Annie (b
Goldsborough).
Alfred a corn miller in 1901(age 50) living in Howsham, Yorkshire with
wife Mary, children Alfred, Annie, William, Charles & Mary Elizabeth.
Looking at Alfred b 1847, Easingwold.
In 1861 living in Long Street, Easingwold with brothers & parents.
In 1871 Alfred Rimmer (21) was a farm Servant in Ferins House,
Arkendale, Yorkshire. A Mary Marshall, was a domestic servant, from
Boroughbridge, in the same household.. Alfred Remmer married in 1871 a
Mary Ann Marshall, Great Ouseburn.
In 1881 Alfred was living with wife Mary (27 from Boroughbridge),
children Rose, George & Mary in Trooper Lane, Southowram, Halifax. He
was an agricultural labourer.
A clay miner in 1891 Alfred Rimmer(age 40) living in Stott's
buildings, Southowram, with wife Mary, children Rose, George, Mary,
Annie & John M. Puzzled, a lodger John Remmer age 6 born Halifax, in
residence.
In 1901 living in High Grove, Southowram with wife Mary A, daughter
Annie & son John M(Marshall). Alfred was a clay miner.aged 52
He died in 1909, Southowram, Halifax age 63 see

Thank you for your message. I have merged the 2 Alfred's, and added some more information, such as his death. I have also merged the 2 Louisa Christmases, which I had started and then forgotten to finish. Plus added poor little Alfred who drowned and Louisa's first child Rose whose father is an unknown. Did an amazing amount actually!!
Thank you for your commitment to the England Project and its goals in 2024! Together, we have made a significant difference to the quality of the One Big Tree, as we strive towards making English profiles the best that they can be.
I see you have done quite a bit of cleanup work on my Cripwell ancestors. I am new to WikiTree so don't understand the many nuances and foibles of the data and the software. I have noticed that, in general, the data entry and consistency is only fair. There are so many different people entering the data that keeping things consistent is probably impossible. Your efforts to clean things up are greatly appreciated.
My tree information is gradually being replicated from my Family Trees, one of which is dedicated to Cripwells and the other to my paternal Cripwell side as well as my maternal May side. As a newbie I try to keep everything as clean as possible, but don't really understand the referencing system yet. I am letting any input from my GEDCOM (Family Tree Makeer) to the tree be handled automatically.
Question for you. Do you know if the sources and media from FTM that are marked "private" make it through? Does the source come through but no media?
The cleanup bits that I've done is in response to error flags that have cropped up on these profiles, those flags in turn due to how the automated system handles gedcom imports. It would be nice if the system could be a little more discriminating but I'm no IT expert so have no idea how difficult that would be - I'm just happy that people like you are making the tree grow but adding your researches. If they need a bit of a clean after import that's a small price to pay.
The direct answer to your question on things marked as private in FTM is that I really don't know. I suspect that the system will import neither, but have no direct experience to either support or refute that.
If you have such in your FTM tree then I'd just try it and see what happens.
Thank you for the posting on John Ford/Elizabeth Walton.
I have some brickwalls for my lines out of Norton in the Moors to Odd Rode Cheshire, note my tree and some adopted Ford's.
I am unsure that this couple are tied to the Ford Book as I found that they baptised their children in St Mary's Stafford.
Now I have also found through Will researches available during the 1550s to 1650s that another John Ford/Elizabeth ? also had similarly named children but they were baptised in St Bartholomews Norton in the Moors. They appeared to have lived around Tongue Lane/Norton Woodhouses in the early 1600s.
You or another researcher may be able to shed more light on this.
Regards
Lynton Ford Australia.
There were at least two different John Fords married to Elizabeths, one in Norton le Moor and the other in Stafford. I have separated these two lines.
I am not convinced by the death statement on Ford-11242. There was a burial of a John Forde at Norton in the Moors 23 Feb 1612/13 but no age is given. A John Ford and his wife Elizabeth were having children baptised there until at least the mid 1620s. Could always be a third John Ford, and you already have another one who married Margaret.
You suggest I am on the most likely track.
To show further links I would like to emphasise a Will of John Ford/Alice unknown of 1587 N/M who refers to interesting ties and, his son John.
This son John has a Will of 1610 with a Mistress at the time Alice Watson ? who refers to Elizabeth Ford his Cousin John Ford's wife and their two daughters ( assume very young and fitting the pre 1600 baptisms !).
Then there is the Will of John Ford 1664 N/M who refers to his sons in law Ralph Stephenson taking over the properties, (implying that his son William Ford of Odd Rode who had died need not inherit) in N/M and a William Shaw.
That son William Ford has a Will of 1652 (assumed aged only 40 plus) and mentions brothers in law Ralph Stephenson and William Shaw.
A Ralph Stephenson has a Will in 1700 which refers to his wife Elizabeth, and his mother Elizabeth (possibly Ford who could have been the sister of William Ford who died 1652).
Need Ai or computer modelling !!
Regards,
Lynton Ford
I noticed that you have updated relationships on some Pre-1700 profiles, such as Singleton-150 and Gudlawe-1. Do you have a source for the relationships?
It seems that much of this family lacks sources. It would be great to get some sources for them. Based on your good work, you can probably do this.
thank you for your interest in John McDowell (Mc Dowell-7010). I'm a WikiTree novice so please could you confirm that if I accept the present changes you recommend to his bio that information in sources identified as 'deleted' is captured in the sources that remain? Also, could you say why you think two of his children should be deleted? Finally, this chap appears in records with two different surnames, so how is that captured? Yours, Paul
I think you've probably answered most of your own questions already. I proposed a merge of Mc_Dowell-7010 and 7011 on 22 June which you accepted on 24 Jun. I got a notice of that from wikitree, checked the merged profile and did some minor tidying up as is good practice. You then made some further changes to the profile and also made this post to me, so I'm guessing that you now are aware that information is not lost during a merge, but can be changed to make it more readable or add more data following one.
Not sure about your query about deleting children. On wikitree it is not possible to delete profiles once they have been made, only merge them with duplicates.
Having said that, I would query Archibald McDonald as a child of John McDowell. I would suggest that the 1871 census is simply an error on the part of the enumerator and his name should be changed to McDowell, not McDonald. He is on the GRO birth index as Archibald David McDowell.
The wikitree system is that what is recorded in the last name at birth field should be literally that - i.e. in Archibald's case McDowell. If that person is actually known by another surname occasionally at a later date, then that should be recorded in the "Other Last name" field. If their name changed during their life and they died under a different surname, then that should be in the "Current last name" field. An example from my one name study would be someone born/baptised as a KIngsman who lost the middle "g" in their name and lived and died as "Kinsman" - it happened.
You might also want to look at how you have his surname recorded. You have him as Mc Dowell (space between "son of" and Dowell) the more usual way of recording such a name omits the space. That is not an error, just something slightly out of the normal. The indexing system on wikitree is clever enough to treat them as identical, but external searches get baffeled. For instance, I could not find Mc Dowell-7010 until I realised that I needed to enter it as Mc_Dowell-7010.
If I can help with any other wikitree foibles, please don't hesitate to ask.
You're quite right. It's not a requirement. It's optional post 1801. If you don't like it, please feel free to remove it, but at the same time, could you please make sure that you include the county name, correctly formatted, which is a requirement.
I am currently working on Nottinghamshire profiles as part of a push by the England Project to attain uniformity (please see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Connect_England%21) and including United Kingdom on a post 1801 England profile is correct if not mandatory. The profiles that I have changed were all incorrectly formatted to start with. They are now correct, even though perhaps not to your personal taste.
Thank you for contributing towards the goals of the England Project! Over the past year, a staggering amount has been done to improve English profiles on WikiTree and we couldn't have done it without you and our other project members.
The England Project leadership like to check in with all our project members at least once a year.
Are you happy to stay in your current project team/s? Or is there another team you would like to join or become more active in?
Please reply to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message. I look forward to hearing from you. Please also let us know if you have other feedback about the direction of the project.
Many thanks!
Elizabeth, on behalf of the England Project leadership. :-)
My intention is to keep plugging away much as before. Nottinghamshire in general and the England Data Doctors consumes just about as much time as I can give, wish I had more.
Just to brag a bit, I'm particularly pleased with what we've done with naming errors on England profiles. All bar a handful of these have now been resolved and I expect to complete these last few over the next couple of weeks. It'll then just be down to fixing new ones as they get generated.
I'm going to take a break from any new projects after this one and do some work on my own one-name study which has been a bit neglected over the last couple of years.
Re Helen Virginia (Kinsman-2664) Keefe daughter of Nellie June (Lyon-4234) Kinsman -
Over time I have searched the Lyon family related to a claim of a Native American marriage with one of the Lyon grandfathers. There appears to be no DNA or evidence of this claim in the immediate Lyon family. The history of Wakeman Lyon-7764 remains unclear as to marriages and children. The line is through Wakeman’s father Walter to son Burr, to son William, to daughter Flora (Lyon-7755) Ward, to Helen (Ward-38234) Osborne, originator of the claim. I am continuing to try to obtain information relating to this question. The expanded tree is on ancestry.com, user name annecwhite2003. Any comment or assistance with this family would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Anne White
I noticed that you'd reach out about a month ago to Jeff Kline about a database error on a privacy locked profile. Unfortunately I'm writing to let you know that he passed away in an accident.
I sent his obituary in to [email address removed] so I assume they'll be closing his account in the coming days.
I hope you don’t mind that I have proposed a merge of the two profiles for Josiah and I have also taken the liberty of adding some associated Perrow profiles for various descendants and relatives here in Australia. They are mainly in Victoria, around Bendigo, but at least one branch seems to extend into New South Wales.
Hi Derrick, thank you for all the work you have done on the Kinsman family! I have some bits of information on Jean Kinsman https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Kinsman-3299 and her father John who you have in your study, I am hoping to add the information in the next while.

The Connect-a-Thon was fun, we hope you enjoyed yourself and are recovering. Thank you for helping, it is appreciated.
Our teams did really well. Our big Mighty Oaks Team came first overall, and our Little Mighty Oak Branches Team was in the top 5 on the Normalised Score. The combined score of our two teams was 11,109. A total of was 95,575 new profiles added by all during the thon.
On behalf of the England Project, I would like to thank you for your commitment to the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve English profiles!

Hi again Derrick, thanks for responding to me with a Private Message - much appreciated. And just to re-iterate what I said in my reply, we really appreciate your Leadership within the Project. Take care, Susie.
I have not accessed this site for years but have a new (REFUELLED PASSION) for the family tree search obsession. i noticed that you had edited a relation of mine. i would love to pick your brain on how best to go forward with my research as i am overloaded with material with no partiular organisaton. Only too pleased to help if I can. As you can see from the above, the subroutine that protects people's privacy has stripped your direct e-mail from your post.
If you send me a private message (link next to my name near the top of this page where it says "Profile Manager") that will put us in direct contact and we can take it from there.
Derrick, thankyou so much for your edit of Emily Oliff. I just recently joined Wikitree, and struggle with the editting protocols. No doubt many of my other profiles need a thorough edit, and you are welcome to work on them. Thanks again.
You're most welcome Alison. If you need any help with the "how to" of wikitree please don't hesitate to drop me a note, only too pleased to help if I can. Wikitree has a fairly steep learning curve, but it does get easy with use.
Hi Derrick - thank you so much for sorting out a load of profiles I uploaded by GEDCOM a decade ago or so and do not have the time to sort out. You're doing this community a great favour by sorting things out like this.
Thank you for joining the Mighty Oaks for the Connect-a-Thon. The 65 members who joined our teams were awesome. Our two teams added 12,905 profiles over the weekend. The Branches Team came second and the Roots Team came forth in the overall scores. Both teams were also in the top ten in the normalised scores. I hope you enjoyed it and will be joining us in April when we do it all over again.
I have a Lilian Bradshaw in my tree and thought yours was mine - alas not to be. But I gathered this as part of working things out. Hopefully will help you discover/decide which is yours. Love to know how you go!
Thanks for this Susie, what an excellent piece of work you've done. I've taken some of the pieces from the space page and added it to their profiles and also added a link to your page. Given the locations, the Lilian from Preston is marginally more likely, but not really enough difference to make it certain.
Derrick Watson reached the Golden Achievement milestone by sourcing at least one profile in every month of the 2022 Sourcerers Project Sourcerers' Challenge.

Cheers Paul Cripwell Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Regards Lynton Ford Australia.
Regards, Lynton Ford
I'm far from sure that he is connected to the right parents but he is now recorded as well as I can with the records I could find.
I noticed that you have updated relationships on some Pre-1700 profiles, such as Singleton-150 and Gudlawe-1. Do you have a source for the relationships?
It seems that much of this family lacks sources. It would be great to get some sources for them. Based on your good work, you can probably do this.
Kay
thank you for your interest in John McDowell (Mc Dowell-7010).
Best wishes
Derrick
I noticed you have added United Kingdom to locations on some profiles I manage, please don't
It is not a requirement to add Great Britain or United Kingdom after England in their respective time periods.
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:England_Project_Profile_Standards
Re Helen Virginia (Kinsman-2664) Keefe daughter of Nellie June (Lyon-4234) Kinsman - Over time I have searched the Lyon family related to a claim of a Native American marriage with one of the Lyon grandfathers.
Best regards,
Jeff
Derrick, thanks for your contributions to the project.
I stumbled across the profiles that you created for Josiah Perrow (1879-1921) and his family. His second wife, Minna (Hansen) Perrow (1881-1954), was a cousin of my wife.
Please let me know if I can assist further.
Cheers

Hi Derrick
The Connect-a-Thon was fun, we hope you enjoyed yourself and are recovering. Thank you for helping, it is appreciated.
Our teams did really well. Our big Mighty Oaks Team came first overall, and our Little Mighty Oak Branches Team was in the top 5 on the Normalised Score. The combined score of our two teams was 11,109. A total of was 95,575 new profiles added by all during the thon.
Check your personal figures here - https://wikitree.sdms.si/Challenges/ConnectAThon/TeamAndUser.htm (gives you a target for the next event).
The next Thon, towards the end of the year will be a Source-a-Thon, And watch G2G for the WikiTree Games sometime in August.
Thanks again for a great weekend, we look forward to working with you again soon.

any help will be much appreciated
Only too pleased to help if I can. As you can see from the above, the subroutine that protects people's privacy has stripped your direct e-mail from your post.
If you send me a private message (link next to my name near the top of this page where it says "Profile Manager") that will put us in direct contact and we can take it from there.
Derrick
Derrick, thanks for your work to improve the tree.
All the best, John Haywood.
Joan, Maddy, Janet & Fran.
I have a Lilian Bradshaw in my tree and thought yours was mine - alas not to be. But I gathered this as part of working things out. Hopefully will help you discover/decide which is yours. Love to know how you go!

Happy New Year, Derrick, and thanks for your continued sourcing.

Could you give me the wikitree ID please. Only too pleased to have a look but it's not a name that is ringing any bells.
The comment including the 1723 date was not added by me but by Susan Squires-2652 on 18 Dec.
I agree with you that it is most likely a typo, but I'd check with her.
My only involvement in this profile was in correcting a minor citation error.
Derrick
