John Watson was baptised on 27 September 1738 at Whaplode and married Ann Perkins on 29 December 1762 at Whaplode. Witnesses were David Watson and Robert Perkins. Ann’s older sister Elizabeth had married John Speechly in 1744. John and Ann Perkins eldest daughter Ann 2 Dec 1763 Whaplode, John was a grazier at Whaplode in 1763. and was buried there 11 June 1803. He proved the will of his mother-in-law Ann Perkins in 1767 as executor. He was named as an esteemed friend in the will of Robert Goulding in 1798. Thomas Bateman, clerk submitted a bill of complaint in 1770, considered in the Court of Exchequer in 1774. “And your orator sheweth unto your Honours, that Samuel Aistrup, Robert Collins, Robert Goulding, John Speechley, James Watson and John Watson, all of the said parish of Whaplode now occupy and during all or the greater part of the time since the said twelfth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty eight (when he was insituted into the vacarage) have occupied great quantities of land within the said parish, on which they have respectively in each year during their respective occupations thereof had great quantities of tithable matters, the tithes whereof have been justly due and payable to your orator as vicar of the said parish.” and kept fed and depastured on such their lands a great number of sheep, which they have from time to time fattened thereon, and sent to London orelsewhere for sale”, and “kept, fed, and depastured many beasts and other unprofitable cattle on such their lands” and “have failed to deliver or pay to your orator or for his use the several tithes.” Robert Goulding had 341 acres from 1768 to 1770 of arable meadow and pastureland, Samuel Aistrap about 150 acres, Robert Collins 141 acres, John Speechley 121 acres in 1768, 114 in 1769 and 107 in 1770. John Watson had 190 in 1768 and 1869 and 215 in 1770, and James Watson had 107 acres. The plaintiff’s bill of costs by December 1776 was £124.
