Extract from Book

Martha Josephine Watson, daughter of Thompson and Elizabeth, was born in 1878, at Bathurst.

In 1872 Bathurst was a thriving rural town, not yet connected by rail to Sydney, yet Thompson Watson in the 1870s and 1880s would be involved in the operation of the railway in Bathurst and beyond. In contrast with Braidwood, no miners were listed for the Post Town of Bathurst as the Bathurst goldfields were situated on the Turon River, 25 miles (40 kilometres) north of Bathurst.

In 1901 Martha married Thomas Young at Holmwood, near Cowra, south west of Bathurst. Thomas was born in Sydney in 1876, the son of Thomas William Young and Elizabeth Livingstone. Thomas Young senior was a shipwright in 1901. Martha's and Thomas's first child, Dorothy, was born at Cowra in 1901; and the remaining four children, Edna, Alice, Ruby and Lily, were born in Sydney between 1904 and 1910.

Thomas died in 1934 and is buried in the Field of Mars Cemetery in Ryde, Sydney. Martha died in 1950 and is also buried in the Field of Mars Cemetery. Of Martha's and Thomas's children, Dorothy is buried in Sydney.[4]
