Biography

Early Life

Allie was born on August 1, 1889 [1] in Butler, Alabama.[2] She was the daughter of William Watson and Drucilla Burkett.
In 1900, her family lived in Georgiana, Butler, Alabama. [3] They have had 8 children, but only 6 were still living. They owned their own farm and employed a 16-year-old orphan, David Boyd, to help the family run the farm. [4]

Education

  • Allie had a 5th grade education. [5]

Marriage and Family

On 3 Oct 1909, in Butler, Alabama, Jacob Beasley and Allie Ray Watson marry at her family home. [6][7]
In 1910, the following year, the couple lived in McKenzie, Butler, Alabama on a rented farm. [8] and they welcome their first daughter in July. [9]
In both 1912 and 1916, the couple had two unnamed stillborn children - a boy and a girl. [10][11]
In 1920, Allie and her daughter, Mary, live with her parents in rented a house on River Road in Brewton Alabama. Her father worked in a sawmill. Her brother, Obin, still lived at home and worked in a sash factory. Her sister, Shirley Alma, and her husband and daughter also lived with them. Shirley's husband, Ed, worked as a chauffeur. However, Jacob Beasley didn't live with them [12] He lived in Milton, Florida working as a millright. [13] [14]
In 1923 and 1925 they welcome a son and a daughter, both born in Brewton in Escambia County, Alabama. In 1930, they own a house in a East Brewton. Elijah drives a truck for a wholesale grocer. [15]
In 1933, she lost her young, 28-year-old brother in a night-time hunting accident. [16]
In 1940, the family still lived in the same place, but Elijah worked as a machinist in a box factory. [5]
In 1950, the couple lived in East Brewton, Alabama on Williamson Street. He still worked as a machinist and was employed by the T. R. Miller’s sawmill in Brewton, Alabama. [17]
In May 1954, her husband retired and filed a Social Security application. [18]
Sadly, their marriage ended when Jacob took his own life in April 1958. [19]

Community Involvement

Allie was a member of United Methodist Church in Brewton, Alabama. [2]

Death and Burial

At 88 years old, on 29 Aug 1976 she passed away in a nursing home in Brewton, Alabama [2] She is buried in Fort Crawford Cemetery in East Brewton, Escambia County, Alabama. [20]

Conflict

On the 1900 Census, the census taker made several mistakes. He misspelled family names, and marked Allie, as a boy named Allan. [3]. However, no other mention of an Allan is ever made in family records. And Allie is mentioned in the 1910 census.
