JOHN WATSON was born on the eighth of January 1779, in Deptford, near London, England. After the death of his father he migrated to America and arrived in Philadelphia in July 1802.
Shortly after he moved to a new settlement in the western part of Pennsylvania. It was here that he became acquainted with the Quakers and eventually joined with them, uniting in membership about 1804.
On September 25, 1806 he married ANN EVES at Fishing Creek, Pennsylvania. In 1827 he moved his family to Canada "and settled within the verge of Yonge Street Monthly Meeting, where he continued to reside the remainder of his life. He felt at times his duty to bear his testimony in religious meetings, and Friends having unity therewith, acknowledged his ministry in 1834." He was a humble man.
His wife, ANN, died in 1846.
In 1848 he married MARY H. BROWNLOW. "Their spiritual exercises harmonizing, they made several religious visits together, in which their labors were satisfactory to those among whom they mingled, and brought the sweet reward of peace to their minds."
He died on January 7, 1865.
"After a solemn meeting, his remains were followed to the grave in the Friends' burying ground, by a large concourse of friends and relatives, on Third-day, the 10th of First month, 1865."
(Information is taken from "A Memoir of Yonge Street Yearly Meeting, concerning our deceased friend, John Watson.")
A Certificate from Muncy Monthly Meeting dated 22nd of 5th month 1827 recommending John Watson and Ann his wife with their five minor children to wit, John L, Edith, Thomas N, Mark, and Dorcas Watson as members to this monthly meeting being produced was read and accepted.
NOTE According to records, all of their children were born in Pennsylvania--which was where John Watson and Ann Eves married, one child: Edith apparently remained in the U.S. dying in Pennsylvania in 1891. The other children all Immigrated to Canada, dying there
