Biography

Leonora (Watson) Wright was a Kentuckian.
Leonora was a nurse during the US Civil War serving in Indiana, Nashville and Murfreesboro, Tennesee; cared for wounded in the Battle of Stones River.

Lenora was the first-born child on 1 Apr 1831 of parents William watson and Mary Pickering, She had two younger brothers, and after her father died in 1844, her mother remarried, and she had a half brother and half sister.

Lenora married for the first time when she was 15 years old to Levi Culver Smith on 11 Nov 1846 in Parke, Indiana, officiated by Persius E Harris. [1] After Levi, she married twice more. Her second husband was William Phemister, and after his death, she later married Daniel Wright.

During the Civil War, Lenora volunteered as a nurse and was commissioned by Governor O. P, Morton. She served in Terre Haute, Indiana in her town, and went to battlesites in Nashville and Murfreesboro, Tennessee, caring for the wounded after the Battle of Stones River.

At the 1880 Census, Lenora lives with her husband, Daniel Wright, and her two daughters (with husband William Phemister) in Terre Haute, Indiana:[2]

Lenora died on 15 May 1914 in Terre Haute, Indiana. She is honorably interred in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. A fitting tribute: Find A Grave: Memorial #21933546[3]
