Sarah A. "Sallie" Watson was born on August 9, 1833, in South Carolina, the daughter of Lucretia and Artemas. She married Johnson Avory Bland on May 8m 1851 in Edgefield, South Carolina and they had 10 children. She died on July 31, 1882, in Edgefield, South Carolina, at the age of 48, and was buried in the Johnson Bland Family Cemetery in Johnston, South Carolina.
