Robert was the son of William and Margaret Watt.[1] He emigrated from Ireland at some point before 1866 and became a farmer in Canada West. [2] On the 1866 Donagheady record of his marriage to Jane Fair, the daughter of William Fair of Windy Hill, his place of residence is given as Canada.[3] Robert returned to Canada with Jane and in 1871 they had twin sons: John, who died in 1874, and Charles William. [4]
After Jane's death, Robert married Ellen Culbert in 1879. [5] In 1881, he and Ellen lived on their farm in Tecumseth Township, Simcoe S. County, Ontario, with Charles.[6] Ten years later, Robert was a widower again and worked the farm with his son. A housekeeper, Maggie, lived with them. [7] In 1911, Robert had retired, but still lived on the farm with Charles and his family.[8] He died at 81 of pneumonia[9] and was buried at the Bond Head United Church Cemetery, Bond Head, Ontario.[10]
