Obituary

Virgil Waugh, Services were held for Virgil J. Waugh, age 82, on January 16th at 11 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church in Hendricks. Burial was in the Hendricks Cemetery. Pastor Robert Neff officiated. Music was furnished by a mixed quartette, Eloise Sik, Janet Reeves, George Tjaden and David Peterson singing, "His Eye is on the Sparrow" and "Under His Wings". The congregation sang, "Precious Lord" and "Great is Thy Faithfulness". Organist was Judy Hauschild. Paullbearers were six grandsons, Matt Matsuda, Troy Pederson, Scott Pederson, Chad Singsaas, Cory Singsaas and Darryl Munsinger.

Mr. Waugh died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1993 at the Hendricks Hospital. He had suffered with emphysema for many years. The past five years he was on oxygen and mostly confined to his home.

Virgil was born December 3, 1910 in Hendricks Township, Lincoln County to John and Hulda (Benz) Waugh. He attended rural school district 21 and graduated from Hendricks High School in 1928. For the next six years he worked at various jobs and places. Bernice Nefstead and he were married on February 26, 1934 at Canby. They farmed for three years in Hendricks Township and then spent two years traveling through the western states, Canada and Iowa. They returned to Hendricks in 1938 and farmed in Hendricks and Shaokatan Townships for 10 years on various farms. In 1948 they purchased their present farm where he resided until his death.

He served as assessor for Shaokatan Township for a period of time and served on two rural school boards and 12 years on the Hendricks High School Board of Education. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Hendricks.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice, three daughters, Connie (Mrs. Clarence Matsuda), Brandon, SD; Kathy (Mrs. Rodney Pederson) and Susan (Mrs. Eugene Singsaas), both of Rapid City, SD; one son, Jon and wife Holly of Lynd; 10 grandchildren, three step grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Perle Ralston, Conrad, IA and Eve Stanbrough of Denver, CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Currie and a sister Irene Fosness.
